As is becoming traditional, on the 18th of January I make mead. This year it snowed, so I put some snow in the mead because I could.
This lead to a rather confused flatmate when I left the flat with a saucepan! I boiled the snow down and added it in with the rest of the ingredients:
- 3 teaspoons yeast
- 6 x 340 gram jars of honey
- Loads of cinnamon
- Loads of nutmeg
- A panful of fresh snow
I'm going for a simple spiced mead this time, with no fancy fruit or anything, as I was a little disappointed by the yield of the last batch (a meagre six bottles), though the quality made the £2.50-per-bottle cost more than worthwhile. And per-drink, that's still cheaper than decent ale!
I won't go into further details about how I made this, as it's been documented
here. Rest assured it's now bubbling away nicely, explosion free, ready to go into my cupboard tonight.
